A tangle of wires,
switches, screws and circuits
connect us, reach through earth
and air to find their way
from me to you and back.
Some ordered jumble of
lines and dots, ones and ohs,
sent screaming into space
by hopeful fingertips
and hungry eyes, dashes
to meet you where you are,
to call for your gaze and
urge you closer to me:
a fire burning red,
impatiently smoking
in giant swirling plumes.
How fast that thicket of
electric sticks sparks and
flames. How bright. How quickly
cut short by water, too.
