Soundtrack for spelunking into my dance past, relistening to works that inspired and inspire and will inspire me to move. Erin revealed Vrioon when she made (and remade and remade) bergschrund for us, part of her grad work slipping off in chunks; pure sensation. She brought FlyLo to me too and Cosmogramma echoed through our early cave variations; sound shadows. Brian, always: I ritualized Dans Bleu and Yellow Morning into my warm-up for Disco Purgatorio; I turn to those and more repeatedly for barre classes; and shades of his compositions for CORPS swirl through certain pieces on Sunday Morning…. His melodic mantras center me. Orange created dance dreams almost immediately; The Orangery began a piece I couldn't finish. Strings, strings, strings. Always strings. Emerald Tears plucked its way into early studies, college work; but Dave's thrumming and striking stringing still vibrate inside me. Still move in me. All my work is re-work; Erin and I still shine lights around our cave trying to trick ourselves into believing what we're seeing; Brian's anthems still rumble under my feet as I navigate the Sea; I'm still guided by forcesforcesforces, not making art and misplacing my glasses, daily, again, again, again.

Heard this go’round: October 18, 2020

A-wailing we will go, digital oceans humming underneath. Light prickling over the ridge, shimmering off dewy leaves and ripe rinds. Balance and precision, steady sawing and sawing and sawing. Endless buzz, fuzzy muscle memories churning in my brain. Bubbling into a pulse. Rising, writhing, twisting upward and rolling waves or hills, trills and swoops, loops and spirals. The careful creep of crickets across grass. Repetition. And repetition. And repetition, clicking bugs and crowds, the digital and the natural, motor and mitochondria. Power. House. Dizziness drowning my synapses, snapping and twitching, flinching my way across a fizzling array, freezing and slipping, collapsing into deep icy seas; seized. Inner circles expanding outwardly, becoming outerly, opening up to me, up in me, through me, my body, that is. No body, chest-hidden under smoke swirls from match after match, just sugar dust and stage lighting. Code raining down, lashing against the Windows in sheets.
